Why does Superman and Batman fight?
SPOILER WARNING: We may be getting into some details here that you may not want to know about before you get the chance to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice for yourself next year. If you're a bit spoiler-phobic, you may want to click over to another one of our wonderful articles.
This hot rumor comes to us from Badass Digest, and it's rather timely given that we just saw Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor revealed earlier today. If their sources can be believed, then Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice can be expected to feature an elegant twist on the story of Frank Miller's classic arc The Dark Knight Returns, and feature Henry Cavill's Superman being sent in to Gotham to try and control Ben Affleck's Batman at the behest of Lex Luthor (this is a big change-up from Miller's story, where the red, white and blue hero was working as an agent of the United States government). It's being kept hush-hush exactly why Lex is interested in sending Supes to take care of this mission, but evidently the alien "comes out swinging" when he meets the Caped Crusader. And by that, the story means that he will be flying down and taking out the Batmobile with one punch.
What's interesting about this new development is the fact that's it's kind of the opposite direction than the ones fans have been expecting in the wake of Man of Steel. Many have presumed that it would be Batman coming after Superman following the destruction of Metropolis, and potentially teaming up with Lex Luthor in order to do so. This new rumored direction is equally interesting, though it will require more narrative leg work (explaining what Lex Luthor's angle and motivation).
