Goku Superman similarities

I have noticed something, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who has, but I am going to proceed as if I am the first to write about it. Now is it just me or is Goku from the Dragon Ball/Z/GT series EXTREMELY similar to Superman from the comics SLASH popular culture? I will admit I am not as well versed on the origins and lore of Superman as I am with Goku but I can see soooooo many similarities that it makes me think it can’t be a coincidence.

Arrival on Earth

This is the first time I started thinking to myself that these two characters are extremely similar, as it was the most obvious. Both are not human: Goku is a Saiyan and Superman is a Kryptonian. These are alien races but I’ll touch on that in a later heading. So, as they are not humans and are not from planet Earth so they must travel to Earth at some point from their home planet, and that is where things get almost IDENTICAL.

Goku was born on planet Vegeta during a time of great turmoil, in which the genocide of the Saiyan race occurs via Frieza’s hand. At some point before this Goku (named Kakarot at this stage, his true Saiyan name) is sent to planet Earth to clear the planet (i.e. murder EVERYTHING) in order for it to be farmed for resources and/or sold. This occurs not long before the destruction of planet Vegeta, narrowly escaping the fate of his race. Goku’s ship lands on Earth and he is found by an elderly man, Gohan, who raises him until his death 6 or 7 years later.

Superman, born on planet Krypton, also escapes the death of his people via space travel to planet Earth. I’m not 100% on the how of planet Krypton’s destruction, but I think it has to do with the core of the planet exploding or the sun exploding, or something along those lines. Defs explosions involved. Superman, whose true Kryptonian name is Kal-El, is sent by his parents to planet Earth to escape the destruction of their race (and possibly get revenge? Against the core? AGAINST THE SUN?!? AVENGE US, SON!!! SUN, SON WTF! COINCIDENCE?!?!?!?!?). On planet Earth Superman is found by an elderly couple who raise him like he was their own.

GALLZY’S IDENTICAL RATING= 9.5/10 - While there are slight differences you can’t really get much closer than that. I knocked off half a point due to the differences in the catalyst of their migration to planet Earth and the manner of their home planets destruction.
