7. Superman’s Moral Code Is a By-Product of His Superpower; Batman

A lot of comic book philosophers argue that Superman’s real power comes in the form of his self-restraint. Sure, he could go around killing evildoers with a snap of his finger, and with his limitless abilities he could even dominate the entire human race if he wanted to. But he chooses not to. Good for him.

Let me tell you something: The desire to dominate the world and enslave its people is a psychopathic tendency shared by some of history’s most notorious evildoers. Entertaining this thought with any degree of real consideration is the mark of a tyrant.

Also, let me give a shout out to Max Landis who gave a talk about Superman’s superiority to Batman. Max, you say that Superman was born knowing the difference between good and evil, and that killing and crime are wrong. This is not true. Superman, like Batman, like regular people, learned right and wrong from his human surrogate parents Martha and Jonathan Kent.

On a day-by-day basis Batman struggles with so many issues we all have to come to terms with, like: Human frailty, Fear, Mortality, The legal system, The limits of justice, Trade offs, and Decision-Making

Batman deals with these problems and overcomes them. He doesn’t have the power to dominate the world; he only has the power to work tirelessly at his job. He doesn’t want to run Gotham city either. If anything, he sometimes thinks about leaving it because of how its citizens treat him.

Superman doesn’t have to suffer through human conflict since exposure to green Kryptonite and overexercise are the only things that can stop him. Thus, he's a very difficult superhero to relate to. Batman runs the risk of not giving enough of himself to the city he loves . . . not too much.
