Sells Superman comic books
New York comic dealers Stephen Fishler and Vincent Zurzolo paid an astounding $3.2 million for a pristine issue of the 1938 comic, which contains the first appearance of Superman.
“Any time there is an opportunity to buy an ‘Action’ No. 1 we always try to do that, especially a nice, unrestored copy, ” Fishler told the Daily News. "It’s a book that there is a tremendous amount of demand for."
The iconic comic cost just 10 cents when it was released, but the final bidding during the eBay auction reached $3, 207, 852 on Sunday night.eBay
The issue features the first appearance of Superman.. "Truly this book is a museum piece."
"If anyone has ever been curious what an Action Comics 1 looked like the day it came off of the newsstand 75 years ago, this is the answer, " the listing reads.
One percent of the proceeds will go toward the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, a charity dedicated to spinal cord injury research that was started by the actor who is best known for playing the Man of Steel.
The issue is believed to be the most valuable comic book of all time. The prior record was held by another "Action Comics" No. 1 that was owned by actor Nicolas Cage. Fishler and Zurzolo, who own ComicConnect.com, are the ones who auctioned it off for $2.16 million in 2011.eBay
