I am not Superman song
Share. Our favorite tracks as inspired by the Man of Steel. By Spence D.
The allure of Superman has been strong amongst the pop cultural elite. How else to explain the references to the Man of Steel throughout pop music history? Bands have splashed into the pop culture consciousness with albums titled Pocketful of Kryptonite and songs simply titled "Superman." The whole concept of truth, justice, and the American way as espoused by Clark Kent/Kal-El over the years seems to strike a resonant chord with the vast multitude.
Which is exactly why we've chosen to hi-lite some of the more killer pop songs that have been crafted over the years with a decidedly Superman slant. Naturally, we've taken some liberties with the songs, since some may only make veiled references about the man in the red, blue, and yellow leotards, but all of them at the very least mention the name Superman in some shape, way or form.
Top 10 Superman Songs10. "Superman" - Eminem (from The Eminem Show)
In typical Slim Shady fashion Mr. Mathers delivers a song that works on many levels. Everybody knows that Superman is wholesome and good-natured, so the very act of Eminem using him as a role model is hilarious. That the song ultimately deals with the issues of gold digging femme fatales is another matter entirely. Don't take our word for it, though, peep the lyrics from the first verse and the second chorus:
They call me superman, leap tall hoes in a single bound/I'm single now, got no ring on this finger now/I'd never let another chick bring me down, in a relationship
Save it b@#ch, babysit, you make me sick/Superman ain't savin' sh@t, girl you can jump on Shady's d#ck/Straight from the hip, cut to the chase, I tell a muthaf@#kin' slut, to her face/Play no games, say no names, ever since I broke up with what's her face/I'm a different man, kiss my a$$, kiss my lips, b!@ch why ask/
Kiss my d$ck, get my cash, i'd rather have you whip my a$$/Don't put out, i'll put you out, won't get out, i'll push you out/Puss blew out, poppin' sh!t, wouldn't piss on fire to put you out/Am I too nice, buy you ice, b!tch if you died, I wouldn't buy you life/What you tryin' to be my new wife, what you Mariah, fly through twice...
Cause I can't be your Superman/Can't be your Superman/Can't be your Superman/Can't be your Superman/I can't be your Superman/Can't be your Superman/Can't be your Superman/Your Superman, your Superman...
Like quite a few artists in the pop music spectrum, 3 Doors Down took the Superman mythos and equated it with undying love and the lengths a man will go to show such love to the woman of his dreams. In many ways the song deals with the idealized notion that a man needs to be a hero to his woman.
